Despite being a relatively new event in the MTB scene, the HERO Dubai Hatta has already made an impressive name for itself. Being the only UCI mountain biking race in the Arab Peninsula, this desert challenge has drawn in athletes from all over the world to compete in this off-road event. Being held on the stage of the HERO Series International circuit, there is growing excitement for this year’s event, to see how athletes overcome this iconic landscape, and to see what challenges this year’s HERO Dubai Hatta may have.

Dubai Holding Sponsors HERO Dubai Hatta 2021

This year’s HERO Dubai has been sponsored by Dubai Holding. Deeply involved with this year’s venue, the Hatta Wadi Hub, Dubai Holding are dedicated to community wellness and wellbeing by setting up their events and campaigns in Hatta. Being key players in showing the beauty of the Dubai desert to the world, Dubai Holding have been essential in elevating the Hatta area to the level of prestige it currently holds; without them, the HERO Dubai Hatta would likely not be the same, and would not have the international draw for mountain biking athletes that it does today.

The event is set to take place in the heart of Dubai’s desert, creating a beautiful and distinct backdrop for this years event. Taking on this unique landscape will push athletes and their equipment to the limit. For European competitors, sandy dunes and rocky paths will certainly be outside of regular comforts, with typical mountain biking competitions such as Italy’s FSA Bike Festival taking place in woodlands and mountainsides. But with unique challenges, athletes are given unique opportunities to succeed.

HERO Dubai Hatta Draws Major Athletes

Competing in this year’s HERO Dubai Hatta include several big names across the mountain biking scene. UCI Marathon World Champion Andreas Seewald is set to make the ride across the Dubai desert, alongside the runner-up of that same championship, Diego Alfonso Arias Cuervo. Whether Cuervo will be able to make up for that second place spot in this upcoming race is yet to be seen, and is certainly not to be missed out on.

Ramona Forchini will also be competing in this year’s HERO Dubai Hatta. The UCI MTB Marathon World Champion in 2020, she is set to be fierce competition for the other athletes competing, and amongst her peers in this desert track, is sure to make the race an interesting one.

Gates Set to Open Wednesday for HERO Dubai Hatta 2021

The event is set to open its doors tomorrow, on Wednesday 27th October. This will give athletes the day and the day after to train, prepare, and get to know the route, of which there are two available for competitors to traverse.

The shorter of the two routes will see athletes take on a 30km route, with a height measurement of 800hm. The longer route, however, sports heights of 1,600hm, with a 60km distance through sand heat for riders to venture through. They will commence at 7.30am and 7am local time, respectively, with the results set to be announced at the HERO village at 9am.

The event is also set to host a range of other events on Friday, including a race set up specifically to give younger riders the chance to compete. The HERO Dubai Hatta Kids, for kids aged 4 – 14, has been designed with a specially routed track through the desert, letting kids experience the fun and thrills of this desert environment. This miniature track is set to have it’s race start at 10.30am, and will be a great treat for kids and parents alike.
