HERO Series 2021: Looking Ahead to the Dubai Hatta Leg of the Circuit

News

HERO Dubai Hatta 2021 Commences 29th October

The mountain biking HERO Series  continues at the end of October, when participants from all over the globe descend on the Hatta region of the Emirates.

Some 110km outside of Dubai, you will find a mountain biking paradise. October temperatures in this region can reach as high as 32 degrees Celsius, but sandy dunes and steep mountainous terrains help to shield from the sun and provide a cooler environment for riders looking to tackle the course.

Friday 29th October will see riders from over 40 countries line up to challenge themselves on the Dubai Hatta HERO Series 60km route. The route features a 1,600 m elevation gain, and develops on the Mountain Bike Trail Centre’s single trails in Hatta.

The route is predominantly on dirt road and sand and does not feature specific technical elements, although the climbs will look to challenge the competitors’ stamina. Another shorter route (30 km and 800 m elevation gain) will also be available for anyone wanting to experience what it feels like to bike in the desert.

Among the standout names taking part is newly crowned UCI Marathon World Champion, Andreas Seewald, who will have to overcome Diego Alfonso Arias Cuervo who ranked second during the World Championships.

All eyes will be on the 2020 UCI MTB Marathon Women’s World Champion Ramona Forchini, with the Swiss representing the JB Brunex Superior Factory Racing Team. It will be the first time she has cut her teeth on one of the HERO Series routes, so it will be interesting to see how she fairs.

Katazina Sosna presents the toughest challenge to Forchini’s bid;  the Lithuanian represents Torpado Südtirol International MTB Pro Team and is the current UCI Marathon world ranking leader and the UCI MTB Marathon Series leader. She also claimed victory in the 2021 BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites, so she’ll be aiming to clinch the title here to continue her impressive display at the HERO Series.

Gerhard Vanzi, Organiser of the HERO Series international circuit, said;  “after the event was postponed last March, we are over the moon that the 2021 HERO Dubai Hatta will take place. Andreas Seewald and Ramona Forchini, two champions in their own right, will also honour us with their presence at this much-awaited event. They are two outstanding athletes and will give us a show to remember – especially because they will have to race against many other outstanding world athletes!”
