GET READY TO MOUNTAIN BIKE IN DUBAI, THE DOLOMITES, AND THAILAND

The HERO World Series – the international mountain bike marathon – was postponed to 2021 due to the current health emergency. The new edition will start in Dubai, continue in Val Gardena in the Dolomites – the HERO’s birthplace – and end in Thailand. This is more than a race: it mirrors the desire of countless mountain bikers to live their passion to the fullest as safely as possible. Registrations open Thursday, 1 October 2020.

The HERO World Series’ Organising Committee had to take the difficult decision to interrupt the World Series scheduled for the second half of 2020 to protect the athletes who wanted to hop onto their mountain bikes and conquer the title of ‘HERO’.

We are therefore delighted to announce the dates for the 2021 Hero World Series international circuit! The event was created in the wake of the HERO Südtirol Dolomites’ success, the toughest mountain bike marathon in the world. Over the last ten years, the event has attracted thousands of bikers from all over the world to the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The dates for the HERO World Series international circuit are: HERO Dubai Hatta on 5 March 2021, HERO Südtirol Dolomites on 12 June 2021, and HERO Thailand on 25 September 2021. These three races are part of the UCI 2021 calendar. Considering the last months filled with uncertainty, looking to the future is our way of wanting to continue with such an ambitious and modern project.

Gerhard Vanzi says, The HERO Südtirol Dolomites has always been a challenge right from the start and, just like back then, we are ready to face our biggest one yet. These are unprecedented times and we want to ensure that sports still represent hope and faith not only in our athletes’ skills, but in an entire community brought together by a common passion.’

Registrations open on Thursday, 1 October 2020 on the official circuit’s website www.heroworldseries.com for one or all three races of the event. The provisional starting list features all athletes who had signed up for the HERO World Series 2020 which was then postponed. These athletes will automatically receive a competition number for the 2021 races.

Vanzi continues by adding, ‘We will do out utmost to protect every participant and their group. This is of fundamental importance and takes precedence over the success of the event: we want to ensure that all safety protocols in the countries involved are respected.’

HERO DUBAI HATTA – 5 March 2021

A mesmerising and unique location which went down well with every participant during the first edition of the HERO Dubai Hatta. The desert challenge will once again take place across Hatta’s nature reserve, precisely in Hatta Wadi Hub, an infrastructure for outdoor sports. There are two confirmed routes: 60 km with 1,600 hm, and 30 km with 800 hm. Save the date and see you on 5 March 2021 to experience incredible emotions that only cycling in a desert can give you.

HERO SÜDTIROL DOLOMITES – 12 June 2021

Where everything started and the most awaited event: the HERO Südtirol Dolomites boasts two routes – 86 km with 4,500 hm, and 60 km with 3,200 hm. This is a lot more than the toughest mountain bike marathon in the world. This is the HERO. This word embodies sacrifice, commitment, passion, courage – everything needed by a biker to become a ‘hero’ of the Dolomites, a majestic UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Save the date and see you on 12 June 2021: the centre of Selva di Val Gardena, the start and end of the race, will come alive with a colourful explosion of flags from five continents. The HERO Südtirol Dolomites is part of the UCI Marathon Series 2021: this is an important acknowledgement as only six marathon and two stage races, among the most important and exclusive in the worlds, are part of the UCI Series.

HERO THAILAND – 25 September 2021

You thought that Dubai was exotic? Think again, because the HERO World Series circuit spreads its wings and races even further east to the third race: the HERO Thailand on 25 September 2021 will take place in Chiang Rai. This unique tourist destination is a beloved location not only for its countless sights, such as the Wat Rong Khun’s White Temple, but also for its exotic atmosphere. Two routes await our bikers: 65 km with 1,200 hm, and 30 km with 600 hm. Both wind their way across the typical wilderness for a unique experience.
