With just one month to go until the 2022 BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites, the Organising Committee announces some light, but necessary changes to the race courses. Don’t worry – the experience of a lifetime at the toughest mountain bike marathon in the world is still guaranteed!
The preparations show no sign of stopping for the go-to event for all off-road cyclists: the BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites, which will take place on 18 June 2022.
Selva di Val Gardena will come to life for the 12th edition of the race, the village bursting with colour thanks to the 45 flags representing the athletes competing for the title of HERO. Both amateurs and pros will cycle at the foot of the majestic Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They’ll choose one of the now iconic race routes: the longer one boasting 86 km and 4,500 hm or the shorter one boasting 60 km and 3,200 hm.
Course changes
Both the 86 km and 60 km courses at the BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites will suffer some light changes.
The first but fun change is in Alta Badia, between the Pralongià and Passo Campolongo. Cyclists will take on the new, adrenaline-packed Flè Trail: a brand-new addition for summer 2022, it features exciting jumps and bends and boasts a stunning vista over the surrounding areas. Th end of the trail offers dynamic changes – a great challenge for all cyclists.
The second change affects the stretch between Passo Pordoi and Lupo Bianco. This takes place on the ski slope – with no snow left, the area transforms into an ideal terrain for cyclists aiming to become HEROes! This alternative descent from Passo Pordoi will only be valid for 2022 due to maintenance works carried out on the original route. The original course will revert to normal for the 2023 edition.
Changes for the HERO Kids!
Some changes were made for the HERO Dolomites KIDS, too. The starting point for the younger cyclists will take place in the ZERO Village, the area where companies showcase their sustainable production and product range. The non-competitive event is open to children between 4 and 12 and features two age-based categories.
