The London Phoenix Cycling Club invites you to their Easter Classic

Easter Monday, 18th April 2022

The London Phoenix Cycling Club is back for its Easter Classic, offering two routes and for the first time, they’re proud to offer a new gravel route.

The road routes will follow the quiet country lanes of Essex, with the gravel route swerving off the beating track to do its own thing. Navigation is available on the downloadable GPX file to either your Garmin or Wahoo. Bookmark the Strava link on your phone to pick up a route card at sign-on. They will not be signing the route so the GPX will be essential.

The gravel season starts Easter Weekend! This is a fast gravel route through Essex with miles of bridleway. Riding the classic 69km loop from Fairlop, a perfect early season ride that’s challenging enough to make sure you know you have had a good day in the saddle but not technical and suitable for all riders. The route is almost all off-road on plenty of fast gravel. Absolutely not suitable for road bikes, gravel bikes with 42mm tyres or greater are recommended, mountain bikes will be fine but a bit slow for this type of off-road.

The longer 113km route will pass through the villages of Good and High Easter, featuring a mid-way feed station at Pleshey village hall where free hot and cold drinks and other wholesome goodies will be on offer. Riders have the option to relax in either their indoor space in the hall or the big field behind. Toilets are also available.

The non-competitive ride will commence and conclude at the Fairlop Outdoor Activity Centre, The Boathouse on Forest Road, Barkingside, with registrations opening from 8:30 am – 9:30 am with the ride commencing at 9 am. Food and drink will be available at The Boathouse either before or after the ride or from the adjacent Greek restaurant if riders prefer.

Places for this extra classic event are strictly limited so must be booked, Entry is a £13 online (+£1 BC booking fee) or £15 on the line sign-on (limited places available). Riders can register here.
