Back to the Races! Tour de France, Paris-Roubaix 2022 Dates Announced

Race

With Paris-Roubaix being delayed to October, and the mass cancellation of events in 2020, it is no surprise that cycle racing fans are anxious over which events will be returning next year, and exactly when they are scheduled to return. With the uncertainty presented by COVID-19, it is a tumultuous time for anyone interested in live sport, however despite these unprecedented times, it seems as though cycling events are getting back on track.

With so many biking events taking place all over the world, we have decided to condense this list down to just the big international favourites; the three major Grand Tours, and the previously mentioned Paris-Roubaix. While many national and local cycling events will also be returning in 2022 as more organisations put out measures to protect from COVID-19, be sure to research times, dates, and recommended safety precautions before attending.

Tour de France

The Tour de France is set to go ahead in July 2022, with the almost month-long event seeming to be going ahead as usual next summer. While the route has yet to be announced, next year’s event is expected to wow crowds and push the world’s best cycling athletes to their limits, with the tour set to begin in Denmark, on 1st July next year.

Expectations for next year’s race are high, after the spectacle presented in this year’s event. The grueling ride over the course’s 21 stages, and the spectacular win from Tadej Pogacar collided to make this race one to remember. We were even greeted by cyclists in orbit, as astronauts aboard the International Space Station called in to wish the cyclists luck. You can see the incredible footage down below.

As the world adjusts to its new circumstances, it is believed that 2022’s Tour de France will be just as captivating as the last. However, it is not just the Tour de France returning next year, with several other competitions also back on the cards.

Giro d’Italia

Another of the three major Grand Tours, the Giro d’Italia is also set to be returning in 2022, with official sources stating that the event shall be taking place from the 6th- 28th May 2022.

The 104th Giro d’Italia, which took place in May of this year, saw competitors traverse an eye-watering 21 stages, each with their own terrain and difficulty that showed the capability and diverse skills of each competitor and their bikes. While the exact route for next year’s competition has yet to be unveiled, it is expected to throw just as harsh a battle at its competitors to overcome. Being a race that has been taking place for over 100 years, it is expected that only the best of the best will be competing. But who will be crowned the winner of the 105th Giro d’Italia? You’ll just have to wait and see.

Vuelta a España

The official Vuelta a España website has confirmed the date of next year’s race as being from the 19th August- 11th September 2022, with the race taking off from Utrecht, Netherlands. The first three maps have also been released to the public, showing the routes the competitors will be taking through the streets of the Netherlands. This will definitely not be a race to miss!

Paris-Roubaix

With the 2021 Paris-Roubaix taking place just last week, fans are already looking forward to next year’s race. With a nail biting win from Sonny Colbrelli, he was just able to edge out competitors Florian Vermeersch and Mathieu van der Pol, giving Italy their first Paris-Roubaix win in over twenty years. Having been delayed to October from April and cancelled completely in 2020, this year’s race was one many had been anticipating. With the anticipation and spectacle of this year’s event, it can only be expected that 2022’s race will attempt to be even better.

Tracks are expected to be sunny for 2022’s Paris-Roubaix, slated to take place in the traditional month of April. With the event being over six months away, exact dates for next year’s race have yet to be confirmed. It is most likely that the event will be taking place on Sunday 10th April 2022, however.

Cycling fans, be sure to mark your calendars!
