Local Roads Edition – seven challenges for road cyclists in June.

Up to 1000 road cyclists would have set out on their TOUR Transalp adventure these days. 800 kilometres and 18,000 metres of climbing were on the schedule of the legendary stage race across the Alps. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the race had to be cancelled for June 2020. Nevertheless, an action-packed week with the cycling community should not be missed: The TOUR Transalp 2020 “Local Roads Edition” will take place from 21 to 27 June – with sportive challenges and great prizes each day. At the same time, on 21 June, the registration for 2021 starts

“Mid-June I always get a feeling of tension and anticipation”, says race director Marc Schneider, who has worked out a TOUR Transalp route for 2020 – and now for 2021 – that still offers new and varied roads asite from famous passes. “A year without TOUR Transalp – there is definitely something missing,” says Schneider. Most of the participants of the free “Local Roads Edition” 2020 will have to do without the Italian Alps, but not without challenging stages and plenty of vertical metres on the “local roads”.

Local Roads Edition

Not only those who had registered for the 2020 edition can take part in this free version, but everyone who is up for seven days of cycling, sweating and great prizes. All information on the TOUR Transalp “Local Roads Edition” can be found here: www.tour-transalp.de/local-roads-edition/en.

And this is how it works: Each day, the Transalp team presents a challenge to all participants that they have to perform outside in their local cycling area and afterwards upload it on Strava. Some stages are short and crisp, others require strong legs and endurance. For example, instead of cycling the 1,200 metres to Monte Grappa, participants have to collect the same metres of climbing on the local raods – this requires not only endurance, but in some cases also creativity in planning the route.

At the end of each day there will be a raffle among all finishers for prizes from the TOUR Transalp partners and sponsors – racing bike shoes, helmets, books and much more. Those who do at least five stages will also get the chance to win a free team start for the TOUR Transalp 2021.

The kick-off of the “Local Roads Edition” also marks the registration start for the TOUR Transalp 2021, leading from Bruneck to Arco from 20-26 June 2021. Those who register between 21 June and 30 September 2020 – as a team or solo – will save 50 euros with the Early Bird offer and pay only 949 euros instead of 999 euros. The young riders can save even more: The U23-generation pays only 799 euros (749 euros during the Early Bird period), and on top of that get free accommodation in the Transalp Camp. Detailed information on the registration can be found at www.tour-transalp.de/en/participants/registration-info.
