Roglic to Stay at Jumbo-Visma Until 2025

Primoz Roglic will stay at WorldTour team Jumbo-Visma for the foreseeable future after signing a substantial new deal which will keep him with the Dutch team until the end of 2025.

After a spectacular 2021, the enigmatic Slovenian has had his form repaid by his team – his current contract doesn’t run out until the end of the 2023 season but with much hope for the Grand Tour resting on Rolgic’s shoulders, the Visma cohort have decided to leave nothing up to chance.

Aside from claiming a gold medal in the time trial back in the summer at the Tokyo Olympics, Roglic also won a third Vuelta a España  in a row with an imperious display, winning four stages and moving just behind Chris Froome and Vincenzo Nibali in overall tour victories amongst the current pool of riders.

After agonisingly crashing out of this year’s Tour de France and missing the opportunity to avenge his narrow defeat to Tadej Pogacar in 2020, the 32-year-old will be eager to lead the Jumbo-Visma team out in the hope of clinching the most coveted crown on the tour.

After first stepping up to WorldTour level in 2016 and immediately signing on with Jumbo-Visma, Roglic has staked his claim on the professional circuit, winning 50 over races in that time and fifteen Grand Tour stages.

Speaking to the team’s website after announcing the extension, he said; “I have grown with this team since I arrived in 2016. We already have quite a history together that I am very proud of. I made my debut in the World Tour peloton at a somewhat later age. It may have looked easy, and the best moments surface the fastest, but it wasn’t always easy.

“Still, things have moved forward rapidly for me and my development. I am not solely responsible for those beautiful moments. I did that together with my teammates and the staff. It is great to be part of this team in the coming years as well.

“My goals are independent of results”, Roglic continues.

“I want to keep developing myself in specific areas. Both physically and mentally, as a team leader and as a person. I’m in the right place for that. We will see what we will focus on in the coming years.”

Senior Director Merijn Zeeman also commented on their decision to renew earlier than anticipated, saying Roglic is essential to Jumbo-Visma’s future ambitions

“We find it very special that Primoz once again extends and, to date, rides his entire professional career with our team. We are delighted with that and also very proud. Primoz embodies the transformation of our team in recent years.

This contract extension allows us to make plans and objectives for the coming years in which he will play a central role. Primoz is one of the pillars of the team. The culture that we have built together is very applicable to the athlete and the person Primoz Roglic.”
