Reimagined Tour de France Femmes Strike Broadcasting Deal for 2022

Tour de France Femmes Coverage Provided by Discovery Sports and Eurosport

The women’s Tour de France has been reborn and rectified, and is the first women’s cycling event in France to be put on the calendar since Route de France Feminine back in 2016. The last iteration with the same name was way back in 1989 before it became known as the Tour of the ECC Women.

2022 will see the return of the Tour de France Femmes, and the competitors will line up on the 24th July to tackle the eight-stage race. Beginning on the Champs-Élysées, the women’s Tour route zigzags east towards the Vosges mountains,  presenting several sprint stages, gravel tracks through vineyards in Champagne, and whole host of weekend high-altitude ascents, culminating in the 24% gravel climb to Super Planche des Belles Filles.

A collection of the world’s best women’s riders will descend on France to contest for the yellow jersey, with viewers able to enjoy live, uninterrupted and ad-free coverage of every stage on Discovery Sports’ subscription platforms including local post-race highlights and analysis shows.

The deal is part of a conscious effort to bring parity to coverage of elite women’s and men’s cycling, and will see a comprehensive provision all the way through until 2025. This year, Discovery Sports and Eurosport were the sole broadcasters for the UCI Women’s World Tour, showcasing the entirety of the circuit including high-profile events such as the World Championships and the Paris-Roubaix.

Guy Voisin, Director of Cycling at Discovery Sports, said: “The first ever women’s edition of the Tour de France has been a long time in the making so we’re absolutely thrilled to have reached an agreement with the EBU that guarantees every stage will be able to watch live and on-demand across our channels and platforms.

“We have made it our mission to invest in more world-class women’s races because it is just great sport, to help grow cycling further and to meet the expectations of our viewers everywhere. We will now harness our deep cycling expertise and unrivalled scale to bring coverage to the widest possible audience in Europe, truly unlocking the power of the sport.”

In addition to the Tour de France Femmes coverage, Discovery and Eurosport have an expansive portfolio of cycling broadcasting lined up for 2022. Every Classic and Grand Tour race, as well as BMX, mountain biking and urban cycling World Championship will also be shown, so if you are looking to keep up with cycling for this coming year, Discovery is the place to be.
