BIKE Festival: Mountain bike spectacle for young and old


For the 23rd time, the BIKE Festival is making its way to Willingen. After two cancellations due to the pandemic, everyone involved is delighted that it is possible to perform the popular event in the Hochsauerland region this year again. 40,000 visitors are expected for the weekend in May.

In the middle of the event is Germany’s largest mountain bike outdoor trade fair, which invites the visitors to marvel and test. More than 100 exhibitors with over 200 brands not only present their products on the large area, but also offer them for testing free of charge. In addition, attractive fair offers can be found at many stands.

Furthermore, the festival offers a varied programme with the right sporting event for everyone. From high-performance sports to kids’ races: everyone gets their money’s worth at the BIKE Festival Willingen.

There is a wide range of activities especially for the youngsters. This year the VPACE Kids Cup take place for the first time at the BIKE Festival Willingen. There can children between the ages of 5 and 10 gain their first downhill experience. The competition includes two stages with some little downhill passages and small obstacles. Also, there is a race for the age groups U15 to U17 at the SCOTT BIKE Marathon.

At the LAZER Junior Trophy on Sunday, children between the ages of 3 and 14 can get their first taste of mountainbike racing. The course distances are adapted to the ages and include no difficult technical sections.

In the Enduro Race, young people aged 15 and over can take part in the Open Category and follow the pro’s footsteps, who will be fighting for the championship title at the same course. The iXS Downhill Cup includes an U15 Rookie classifi- cation for the first time this year. In addition, the mobile S’COOL Pumptrack for kids set up in the centre of the exhibition. There, Children and teenagers can

rent junior bikes free of charge to try them out on the pump track.

For all those who want to enjoy a ride together without pressure to perform, the Shimano Gravel Ride on Friday is the perfect ride. The route leads over gravel, forest and meadow paths and is completed without timekeeping. The route is based on a GPS track, which the participants will receive at the start number distribution.

There are also suitable competitions for adults. All long-distance fans get their money’s worth at the SCOTT BIKE Marathon. There are three distances to choose. The varied routes are provided with technically demanding trails amidst a beautiful panorama. The reigning marathon world champion in the men’s category, Andreas Seewald, as well as the mountain bike legend and current world champion in the Masters category, Karl Platt, will be at the start of the SCOTT BIKE Marathon.

The BOSCH eMTB Challenge supported by Trek offers a diverse course which is a mix of elements from enduro, trail and orienteering races and is specially designed for biking with an electric engine.

At the Enduro Challenge, the battle for the championship title will not only be exciting for the participants. Once again, the German Enduro Championship takes place in the course of the Enduro race during the BIKE Festival in Willingen. All details about the course will be announced at the start number distribution. This year there are also completely new sections in the course plan, which have never been ridden before. So, the excitement is already high before the start of the race. Training is on Saturday; the big race will be held on Sunday.

The IXS Downhill Cup also promise a spectacular experience not only for the 500 adrenaline-addicted athletes, but also for the spectators.

Additional, the BIKE Academy in Willingen goes into its second round. Launched at the BIKE Festival Garda Trentino, the workshop series will also take place in Willingen. In addition to the partners Ergon and Kenda, the BIKE editors also pass on their know-how to anyone interested. Participation in the seminars is free of charge, but the places are limited.

With this varied programme, the BIKE Festival in Willingen from 20th to 22nd of May 2022 promise an exciting weekend for the whole family.
