Grand Prix 5000 S TR Available From 4th October

Continental has launched their latest product in a long line of innovative road tyres, with the all new Grand Prix 5000 S TR following on from its hugely successful predecessor in the Grand Prix 5000 TL.

The new Grand Prix 5000 S TR is 20% faster and 50 grams lighter than the Grand Prix 5000 TL thanks to its 2-ply structure, with 28% more sidewall protection.

It is very much performance focussed, with Continental promising greater longevity, grip and rolling resistance. Features such as the ‘Vectran Breaker’ and ‘Laser Grip’ are said to help further safeguard from punctures while helping to contribute towards tighter cornering.

The Grand Prix 5000 S TR is hookless compatible and tubeless ready as standard, thanks to a new user-optimised tubeless system. Rather than update the previous model,  Continental have looked to reimagine their whole approach road tyres with a faster, stronger mould all the while being even easier to mount than before.

Oliver Anhuth, Head of Marketing TwoWheel Tires, Continental, said:

“Following on from the success of the Grand Prix 5000 – which has arguably become one of the most well-loved performance road tires in the world – we are delighted to announce the launch of Grand Prix 5000 S TR.

“We created this new tire to combine maximum performance with ease of use and reliability, regardless of whether a cyclist chooses to race, to spend long days out exploring the roads, to ride through summer or all year round. All new hookless compatibility and tubeless capabilities will put convenience without compromise at the heart of every cyclist’s ride.”

While having only just been put on general release today, the tyre has been rigorously tested and under development since 2019, with more than 18-months of product testing and trials completed.

It has been put through its paces across the professional circuit throughout 2021; most notably, the tyres featured in several Grand Tour victories including Filippo Ganna’s World Championship time trial victory in September as well as battling through mud and rain to aid in Sonny Colbrelli’s recent win at Paris-Roubaix.
