May 2023 issue

News

Welcome to the May issue of BIKE.

The month of May is likely named after the Roman goddess Maia, who oversaw the growth of plants or, perhaps, the name might have come from the Latin ‘maiores’ which means elders.

May is one of the most beautiful months in my humble opinion. Especially if you are lucky enough to live close
to some ancient woodlands, in which the ground gets carpeted with bluebells for several stunning weeks, each year.

It’s the perfect time to hop on your bike and get out and about on the roads and trails that cover this nation’s beautiful countryside, even if just for the smell of the flowers and blossoms alone.

In this month’s sportives is the Cotswolds Sportive which is not an overly tough ride. This sportive is more aimed at a relaxed day in the saddle, we are just trying to help you enjoy cycling at its very finest – and what better place to do it, in what is a stunning area of outstanding natural beauty.

Also RIDELONDON-ESSEX 100 2023 is scheduled for 28th May. With over 20,000 cyclists taking part on closed roads, the RideLondon-Surrey 100 launched in 2013 and established itself as one of Europe’s biggest closed-road sportives.

So, if you are feeling suitably motivated by the weather, then why not read through this May issue of BIKE magazine to get some ideas!

In this issue we have covered the 4 days at Garda Trentino. This year at the BIKE Festival Garda Trentino there were four days of program and action around mountain biking instead of just three. New and the sporting highlight this year: licensed riders who compete on the Ronda.

I hope you enjoy this issue and feel suitably inspired to get out on your bike. If you’ve had any adventures of your own, or have any other cycling related news, views and stories you’d like to share, then please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Happy cycling!
