Traffic-Free Cycle Trails legacy continues

Traffic-Free Cycle Trails legacy continues with companion guide featuring new routes in the South East of England

Cycling guide author Nick Cotton publishes the latest addition to his traffic-free cycling book series – focussing on the South East of England – following the immense success of Traffic-Free Cycle Trails.

Now in its fourth edition, Traffic-Free Cycle Trails is an Amazon bestseller and is the result of years of thorough research into the very best trails available away from the noise and danger of traffic.

Traffic-Free Cycle Trails: South East England features fifty new routes, as well as a selection from the original book, located in a sixty mile radius around London, from the Isle of Wight up to Peterborough, and Milton Keynes to Margate. The rides are a mixture of trails on dismantled railways, canal towpaths, riverside paths, round-reservoir routes, easy woodland trails, seaside promenades, urban parks, National Trust properties and more challenging routes on bridleways and byways.

The book pulls together easy rides for parents looking for safe places to cycle with their children, or casual cyclists looking for an easy enjoyable ride. It also offers the chance for people to try out easy rides for gravel bikes and mountain bikes, which may be a stepping stone to explore more challenging routes such as those found at forestry mountain bike centres or long distance off-road routes such as the South Downs Way or the Ridgeway.

Cotton said*:

‘You can cover so much ground on a bike compared to walking; there will almost always be something unexpected or new to see, even on familiar routes. You are out there, part of the outdoors, in a way that is never possible in a car, train or bus. Cycling offers a kaleidoscope of images and experiences: I have crossed the Pyrenees and the Alps on a bike, ridden through Morocco to the edge of the Sahara and braved the fearsome winds of Patagonia in South America. Each trip has its own indelible memories.’

Traffic-Free Cycle Trails: South East England publishes on 15 September 2022 and can be pre-ordered from 5 August from
